In her summary article about the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, New York Times film critic Manohla Dargis had nothgin but praise for INTERIOR. LEATHER BAR.

“One of the sharpest, best surprises of the festival, which ends Sunday, “Interior. Leather Bar.” is a serious yet playful hourlong deconstruction of the representation of homosexuality as viewed through the prism of “Cruising,” William Friedkin’s 1980 film about an undercover cop, played by a supremely jittery Al Pacino, searching for a killer of gay men.”

Today, INDIE WIRE included INTERIOR. LEATHER BAR. on their “20 Films We Can’t Wait to Watch” list. Having seen the shorter gallery version in 2012, IW says “Interior. Leather Bar.” is an incredible investigation of masculinity and sexuality. We’re incredibly excited to see how this hybrid doc pans out in feature-length form.

And, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY featured an exclusive first look clip of the film and an interview with James on the inspiration for the film, gay sex and his collaboration with co-director Travis Mathews. “My history and my place in mainstream cinema helped us shape the approach we were going to take,” says Franco. “That’s why I’m in the film playing myself, a version of myself. It frames the context of this movie and this material.”
